Acid Dyes
Metanil Yellow
A bright yellow acid dye with a long history as a laboratory pH indicator.

Overview
Metanil Yellow is an azo acid dye that gives a strong, clean yellow in aqueous solution. Beyond colouration, it is well known in analytical chemistry as a pH indicator, shifting from red to yellow across the pH 1.2–3.2 range, which reflects the same acid-base structural behaviour that governs its dyeing performance. As with other acid dyes, it applies most effectively to protein and polyamide fibres and related substrates from an acidic bath.
