Basic (Cationic) Dyes
Bismarck Brown Y
A classic diazo brown for wool, silk, leather, and paper.

Overview
Bismarck Brown Y is a cationic diazo dye giving a warm yellow-brown shade, and one of the earliest azo dyes developed. Like other basic dyes, it carries a positive charge that draws it onto the negatively charged sites of protein fibres and lignin-rich pulp, and it is long established both as a textile and paper colourant and as a biological stain used in histology.
