Sizing
AKD Emulsion
Internal sizing for improved hydrophobicity and resistance to liquid penetration.

Overview
AKD Emulsion is an internal sizing solution based on Alkyl Ketene Dimer technology. It is used in papermaking to create resistance to liquid penetration and improve sizing performance, particularly in neutral and alkaline systems. AKD reacts with the hydroxyl groups on cellulose fibre during the drying and curing stage, forming a covalent ester bond rather than simply coating the fibre, which is why its sizing effect continues to develop for some time after the sheet leaves the machine.
